commuting again

Well today was a big day for B and I. We were given the keys to our first home. Yup, we took the plunge and entered into the next phase of the Standard North American Life and Work Manual. It feels good though and not forced. Aside from not paying rent any longer, we will have a bit more of a physical distance between work and home. But this is actually a good thing. Currently we are both about ten minutes walking distance from work. Our new home is three miles from downtown.

In the last year I haven't ridden my bike much because we are so close to everything that it didn't make sense. I'm happy to think that my daily bike rides will be returning once again. In Portland I rode four miles each way to work. It was the perfect distance to get my heart going a little before work and not make things to complicated. The new commute will be easy until it starts to get cold. Hell, if can surf year 'round I shouldn't have a problem biking year 'round.

Bikes are cool by the way, for those of you who are still behind the times. SUV's are not. If you're in the market for a new bike, and like to have things made by a true craftsman, then check out Mike Flanigan's ANT bikes. They embody beauty and functionality. I hear he has a wait list though so better get yer deposit ready. Here is a photo of his custom XO model.

Cool bike! Man. I have an old schwinn that I need to put some more friendly tires on like that bike.

Love this quote from his site:
"When I see an adult on a bicycle I do not despair for the future of the human race."--H.G.Wells

No other way to get to work. My bike, is often, the only thing that motivates me to get out the door on a Monday morning...
